Frequently Asked questions
when does the school day start for 5th grade?
School starts a little earlier for 5th and 6th grade than it does
for the rest of the elementary school. The first bell rings at 7:45 am and class starts at 7:50. Monday through Thursday your child will go to a rotation first period, either P.E., or Bible Study. On Monday and Friday, your child will come straight to the classroom. Monday through Thursday the day ends at 3:15 pm. On Friday, the day ends at 12:00, noon. how much homework should my child have?
Each night your child will have accelerated reading (approx. 30
minutes),a reading comprehension worksheet, and math - either to complete the day's lesson or a worksheet that reinforces the day's lesson. In addition, your child will need to complete the week's spelling workbook at home. This is assigned on Friday and is due the following Friday. What is the consequence of turning work in late?
All late work, whether it is turned in 5 minutes late or a few
days late will be considered late. Late work is marked off by 50%. "No Name" papers are considered late. What is Friday fun?
'Friday Fun' is a special time for all of the 5th grade classes.
Each Friday from 11:00 - 11:40 students who have no missing work (Red Folders that have not been returned and signed are considered missing work) are able to chose to go to a fun activity. Examples would be - watch a movie in a classroom, have extra recess, play board games in a classroom, learn a new organized game outside, and more. Those students who have missing work must go to study hall and try to get the work completed. All four fifth grade classrooms participate in this activity. What is the purpose of the Red Folder?
The red folder is our weekly communication. It includes a
behavior chart so you know how your child behaved during the past week, note stating that you have looked on MyLLA to see your child's grades, any test that I want you to see and sign, my Wednesday Word, field trip notes, and much more. The red folder is due back to school the day after it goes home. It needs to be signed and all late work is to be inside it. Failure to do so results in not being able to participate in Friday Fun. What is the purpose of the couches in the classroom?
The couches in the room are used daily. We sit on them for
worship, group reading, and silent reading. They seem to help generate a feeling of family. What are the field trips for this school year?
We have many field trips in fifth grade. They are educational
trips that tie in with our units of study. We go sailing in 1800's type sail boat(History), Surf science Overnight trip (Science),International Printing Museum (History), Riley's Farm (History), and Catalina Overnight trip (Science). We also do reward trips at the end of the quarters for those students who have turned in all of their schoolwork. We go bowling, do in-house activities, and go to Fiesta Village. Those students who are missing work stay at school in a study hall to complete the missing work. How can I best communicate with the teacher?
The best way to communicate with me is by email ([email protected]). I will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also call the classroom (909-796-0161 ext. 1495) and if the students are not in the room I will answer. If the students are in the room, you can leave a message and I will get back to you
as soon as possible. If it is urgent, please call the school office (909-796-0161 ext. 1001) and ask them to notify me. The remind app is another excellent way to communicate with me. To sign up for the Remind app follow these instructions: REMIND app chat: send a text to 81010. Text @k898f9k The red folder is also an excellent way to send notes back and forth. Homework Hotline is a great place to call for information when we are on field trips( 909- 796-0161 ext. 1405). I update it during the field trip, especially during our overnight trips. What are the uniform requirements?
All uniforms are to bought from True Grits, located in Riverside.
Students in grades 4-6 have the choice between maroon, white, navy blue, and green polo shirts. There are also long-sleeved maroon polos and navy blue polos. Girls will now have the option of a long sleeved blouse. The boys must wear either khaki or navy blue pants or shorts. Girls can wear navy blue or khaki pants, skirts, or skorts. Girls also have the choice of a maroon shell sweater and a plaid skirt. Girls can wear leggings, however they must be solid colors - either grey, white, maroon, navy, or black. Outer wear, coats, sweatshirts, and sweaters, must be from True Grits. True Grits has two choices of sweatshirts, one cardigan sweater, and a thermal-lined jacket. What is '10 and you win?
'Ten and You Win' is a motivational tool. When the class as a
whole receives ten unsolicited compliments from someone other than me, they can choose a fun activity to do (30 minutes). Some examples would be game day, extra recess, or rootbeer floats and a movie. |
